I’m always interested in exploring different areas of design, including ones I haven’t branched out into before. So, when a former employer contacted me about trying my hand at designing some sports gear for a startup he was founding, I jumped at the opportunity – and I’m very grateful and honoured to have been given the trust to execute his ideas!
With the brand being called Pickled, at first my idea was to incorporate imagery of a literal pickle. This was my first draft:
After lots of amending and adjusting, we eventually came to the final logo:
Next came the fun part! When designing the pickleball paddles, I was grateful that they already had an idea of what they wanted in mind, because it made the process easier to streamline – especially as we were working on a strict timeframe. With the two ideas they had, I came up with two designs: a sky-patterned paddle, and a “paddle pop” ice cream-inspired paddle.
I also designed the packaging for these paddles! The idea was to go for an ice cream box with nutritional information written on the back.
Overall, this was a really fun project to work on and I’m thankful for the trust and cooperation in bringing this vision to life!
